In this playful one-day soft toy workshop, students will learn the foundations of machine sewing and embroidery while designing and making their own completely unique monster.

Cute and cuddly? Weird and wonderful? Dark and dramatic? Every softie will be one of a kind.

This is a hands-on, confidence-building workshop where students leave with real skills — not just a craft project.

What you will learn

How to cut your pattern and fabric accurately
Basic embroidery stitches — running stitch, whip stitch and blanket stitch
Machine sewing fundamentals — straight stitch and zig zag
Working with felt and embroidery cotton
How to securely attach arms and legs
How to stuff and finish a softie neatly

Our goal is to have your monster completed during class time.

Class format

6 hour workshop
3–6 students per class

Students are guided carefully through each stage, building skills and confidence throughout the day.

Sewing machines for your use — students learn on the Bernina 335 and Brother Innov-is A80
Softie pattern and printed instructions to take home
Body fabric (choice of colour scheme), felt, embroidery thread, embroidery needles and stuffing
6 hours of expert tuition

Ros started as a Usefulbox student and now teaches beginner sewing, softies and craft. Warm, kind and encouraging, she creates a relaxed space to build confidence. With a background as a TV casting agent, she brings great people skills and a generous approach to teaching.
